Memorial Day

I want to wish a thoughtful and reflective Memorial Day to all of the Adjunct Advocate’s readers, and all of the visitors who come and use the resources at Memorial Day was established in 1866 as “Decoration Day”—to honor the dead of the Civil War by decorating their graves. After World War I, it became custom on Memorial Day to honor all those who had died in all of America’s wars.

Our troops are currently fighting in the midst of a civil war in Iraq. Whether or not we agree with the foreign policies of our government, I hope we can all take a moment and remember the sacrifice of those who have died in the service of our country since that first memorial Day 142 years ago.
