The “Ad-Junct” Life–Working Toward Contentment

by Sunny Knable, Ph.D. Ad– the prefix meaning “to or toward.”  Junct – the root word meaning “to join, meet or link.”  Adjunct — the precarious purgatory in which Ph.D.’s linger until they become full- time faculty, move to an undesired location, change careers or become a bitter version of themselves.  After five years as an adjunct, I just might be moving toward the exit sign to join another path.  The adjunct life is not for everyone.
