The School of Languages and Literatures invites applications for a permanent appointment as Lecturer German Language and Literature. The appointment will commence on 1 July 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. The School of Languages and Literatures is one of the largest departments of its kind in Africa and offers a wide range of ancient and modern languages that are used in South Africa and across the globe.
A completed PhD in German Language and Literature or, in exceptional cases, near completion
Evidence of a clearly laid-out research strategy
High-level fluency of the German language
Familiarity with the theory and methods in teaching German as a foreign language
Experience in the teaching of German language, literature and culture at undergraduate and, preferably, postgraduate levels
An ability to contribute to teaching courses in German cultural studies in the context of a de-colonised curriculum
Academic track record, including published research, commensurate with career stage
Teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students at all levels
Publication of research
Active participation in the School’s research culture
Administration commensurate with experience
Convenorship of courses and programmes
The annual remuneration package, including benefits at Lecturer level is R683 358
