The Department of History at Connecticut College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor in the history of North America before 1800 to begin July 1, 2019. We seek a colleague who is an excellent teacher and is enthusiastic about working closely with students in a liberal arts context. This individual will teach courses in any field of early America before 1800, including, but not limited to, African Diaspora, Native American history, environmental history, slavery, empire, gender and sexuality, or borderlands, as well as more specialized courses in the person’s area of expertise. The teaching load is 5 total courses over the academic year (3 courses in one semester and 2 courses in the other semester). The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in History at the time of appointment. Salary is competitive.

The teaching load for full-time visitors is two courses in the fall semester and three in the spring semester. Visiting faculty are initially participating members of the faculty and voting members in their second and subsequent years.
