The Department of History at Bates College seeks a Lecturer in Modern European History for the 2019-2020 academic year. Teaching responsibilities include three courses (60% load) over two semesters: a one-semester survey course of modern European history (1789) and two thematic courses, one at the 200 level and the other a 300-level seminar, as well as senior thesis advising. The area of expertise is open, though we especially welcome applications from candidates who can advise theses on race and immigration in Modern Europe.

Bates seeks applications from individuals with the demonstrated ability to contribute to the college's continuing commitment to social and cultural diversity, inclusiveness, and the transformative power of our differences. Applicants should discuss their strengths and experiences in these areas and describe how their background, research, teaching, and/or outreach can further the College's goals.

Review of applications begins on April 1, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Please submit the following materials: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, sample syllabus, a writing sample and, if available, recent teaching evaluations. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. For more information about the college please visit the Bates website:
