General Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in humanities-based field, Master's degree or PhD preferred. 4 years related experience, including 1-4 years of experience working for a university press, a well-established literary press, or in a related field, as an acquisitions editor for academic and trade books in the humanities with a demonstrated track record of list-building and ability to identify emerging areas of scholarship is required. Acquisitions areas include poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, food studies, and regional studies.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

Performs complex managerial work administering the daily operations and activities of The Texas Review Press.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

Coordinate peer review processes, including maintaining lists of reviewers, requesting reader reports, following-up with readers, receiving reports, interpreting the reports, and providing feedback to authors; create, maintain, and monitor editorial schedules; ensure that manuscripts come in on schedule; review copyedited and proofread material; travel to conferences and scholarly events to support the press's acquisitions program; including all aspects of manuscript preparation, development, and organization; experience working collaboratively with manuscript editing, production, and marketing; and experience assessing fiscal requirements of individual books.

Work closely with students, professors, and staff in the SHSU English Department. TRP is a teaching arm of the university, and as such, interns provide much of the staff hours needed and are recompensed financially and with real-world publishing experience.

Under the supervision and guidance of the press Director, oversees all editorial processes for all published titles. Works closely with the Director to establish goals and objectives for the day-to-day operations of the press. Manages the activities of interns and staff in the Texas Review Press. Develops and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates policies and procedures, and establishes and maintain documentation of editorial workflow, publishing procedures, and transparent management and budgetary process. Develops schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals. Identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations. Monitors budget expenditures. Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others. Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies. Manages programs focusing on continuous process improvement. Manages staff development plans and activities. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director.
