Job Summary:
The Department of History, Political Science and Geography at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, seeks a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of History to teach in our long-established Public History and Museum Studies program, to begin in Fall 2019. Ohio Northern’s program is one of only two universities in Ohio that offers a B.A. in History with a minor or certificate/concentration in Public History/Museum Studies, and the university has an outstanding collection of East Asian art and historic maps.

One-year Visiting Assistant Professor of History to begin in Fall 2019. Rank commensurate with experience and credentials.

Principal Responsibilities
The person selected for this position will be a visible and engaged faculty member in our department, the university and the community.

Required Skills:
Knowledge of pertinent digital platforms required. Ability to teach survey courses in American history and a variety of courses in the areas of Public History, Museum Studies, and Digital History required.

Ability to teach a basic course in archaeology and conduct a field school in archaeology is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:
A terminal master’s degree is the standard for practitioners of public history. A doctorate is increasingly common for those with academic positions in public history, but by no means universal. We intend to weigh the extent and level of experience in the field against the academic credentials of candidates.

Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in U.S. History or Public History (Master’s degree at minimum, Ph.D. preferable) and significant experience working in historical museums is desirable.
