The School of Visual, Performing, and Communication Arts http://www.wcsu.edu/svpca/ offers a professional training program in a liberal arts context at the relatively affordable cost of a public university. Course Information: COM 371 Film and Video Art (3 SH) is a creative and critical examination of works produced by film, video, sound, and performance artists. This production-based class encourages students to develop multiple works of experimental film and video art. The course explores theories, methods, and techniques that depart from traditional media production formulas, challenging participants to step outside the accepted conventions of daily media experiences. A beginning to intermediate knowledge of non-linear video editing is necessary.
This class will be taught in a computer lab on Mondays and Thursdays on ground from 12:30pm - 1:45pm during the Spring 2025 semester.
Course Responsibilities: Teach COM 371 - Film and Video Art; Develop and deliver course materials that align with the course description; Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback; Maintain office hours for student consultation.
Qualifications: An MFA in Film and Video Production, Experimental Filmmaking, or Animation; Demonstrated experience in experimental film, video art, and animation production; Hands on knowledge working in Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Audition, FilmFreeway submission process; Previous teaching experience at the college level.
Salary & Benefits: The current minimum starting salary is $2,026 per load credit (or a minimum of $6,078 for a single 3 credit course). WCSU is within walking distance of the Danbury station on the Metro North train. All employment, if offered, is contingent upon proof of citizenship or employability under the requirement of the Immigration and Control Act (IRCA) and the successful passing of a background check.
