Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

Please note: This position will be required to teach a hybrid class and enroll in the (paid) Online Learning training during the summer, for a Fall class. The duration of the academy is 8-10 weeks.

Job Summary
Provides high quality instruction so that each student may meet learning outcomes. Works with the dean and colleagues to improve student learning experiences. Assists with other instructional responsibilities as determined by the dean.

Essential Duties

  1. Helps advance the role and goals of a comprehensive community college.
  2. Teaches a range of community college courses, which may include developmental, transfer, or career-technical courses.
  3. Creates a learning environment for students inclusive of diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds.
  4. Collaborates with faculty and staff from other departments and divisions to promote communication, coordinate programs, and support student success.
  5. Prepares clear learning outcomes for each course and inform students of learning outcomes in a course syllabus.
  6. Participates in college service and activities outside direct instruction, such as registration, curriculum development, advising, strategic planning, and educational assessment.
  7. Supports student recruitment, placement, and retention.
  8. Posts and keeps office hours to be available to students for assistance outside the classroom.
  9. Teaches at least one evening section per year as needed.
  10. Keeps professionally current by participating in professional development and other activities; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.
  11. Maintains active liaison with high schools, universities, business and industry or external agencies and assist the dean with program advisory committees as appropriate.
  12. Completes instructional duties, reports, and paper work assigned by the dean in a timely manner.
  13. Attends division, department, and committee meetings and in-service programs.
  14. Incorporates, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning, laboratory and office environments.
  15. Maintains and emphasizes safe working conditions and practices.
  16. Complies with all Board policies and administrative regulations.

Additional Duties

  1. Coordinates and schedules labs and practicums.
  2. Maintains the confidentiality of information.
  3. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Computer Skills, etc.)

  • Associate's degree (or higher) in early childhood education or related field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in an occupational area directly related to the instructional program (the work experience must be beyond that acquired in apprenticeship, on-the-job training) OR Occupational competency for the teaching assignment secured through a combination of three years of work experience and specialized training. (When applicable, the applicant's qualifications may be reviewed by the appropriate occupational advisory committee.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree (or higher) in the subject area or a master's degree (or higher) and 24 graduate-credit hours in the subject area
  • Teaching experiences, preferably at the community college level
  • Experience with infant and toddler programs and children with special needs
  • Experience with emergent curriculum and the project approach
  • Experience working with ELL children and diverse families in early childhood settings, and
  • Experience teaching hybrid and online courses

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to design, modify, maintain and re-structure systems that support the program's functions.
  • Ability to maintain professional networks and contacts such as with universities that are our articulation partners, prospective employers, prospective majors, etc.
  • Knowledge of the principals and practices of curriculum development and revision
  • Ability to work cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the principals and practices of budget development and management.

Working Conditions and Important Information

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a computer terminal. Visual eye strain and repetitive hand/wrist motion for data entry and keyboarding functions.

Salary
Salary placement will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past education and/or experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.
