School of Business (Department of Accounting)

Howard's Accounting Program was the first to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in Washington, DC and the metropolitan area and one of approximately 150 accredited accounting programs in the United States. The accreditation for the School of Business is highly regarded by both employers and potential students. The unique additional accounting accreditation for the department of accounting is also highly regarded and has resulted in Howard University being one of the few HBCUs which are on the national recruiting list for many of the major accounting firms and Fortune 500 organizations.

Position Information

BASIC FUNCTION:

Part-time teaching in the School of Business (Department of Accounting)

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

N/A

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Appointment as instructor (temporary) is accorded to a person who holds appropriate academic or professional qualifications and gives promise of excellent teaching. The instructor is expected to be able to plan and conduct courses with little or no supervision. The instructor's chief responsibility consists of classroom instruction.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated potential for teaching proficiency

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Evidence of teaching and professional potential on the basis of past experience
  • Teaching proficiency on the basis of past experience and/or on the basis of teaching evaluations (student and peer).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree in Accounting from an AACSB accredited institution.
  • Work experience in accounting and a CPA or other related certifications.
  • Teaching experience in an online environment.
  • Part-time teaching assignments are made on an annual basis based on programmatic instructional needs (up to three classes per academic year)
  • Interest and qualifications in teaching in one or more of the following areas (Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, Governmental/Not-for-Profit, Tax).
