Posting SummaryThe Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences is seeking an Instructor to teach an undergraduate course, "Introduction to Oceanography", during the 2021 summer session, which runs from 6/28/21 through 7/23/21. This is a co-adjunct position, and is subject to enrollment. The candidate must be familiar with and able to teach the essential aspects of oceanography, with emphasis on "big picture" processes and the interdisciplinary nature of oceanography; examine the geological, physical, chemical and biological disciplines (at a basic level) as they apply to ocean-related processes. They must show how oceanographic concepts apply to: how ocean systems work, how they are studied, how the ocean influences Earth's biosphere and atmosphere, how the oceans support living ecosystems, and which issues concern the fate of oceans.

This course is offered in two all-online sessions (winter/summer) and periodically as a hybrid format (summer), where knowledge of oceanographic lessons/techniques are employed in the field for one class per week.

Minimum Education and ExperienceQualifications include: graduate work and experience teaching the relevant topics required.

Research experience is a plus.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCandidate must have a PhD. Experience in oceanographic field techniques/lessons; experience in remote teaching, multimedia classroom techniques, and online learning management systems (Eg. Sakai) is required.
