Any instruction/service over base hours is paid at an overload rate of 1.5% per contact hour. Overload is determined based on class need and is not guaranteed semester to semester.

The Welding and Fabrication Instructor will provide quality instruction, during the day, evening and/or weekends, related to all aspects of welding; including but not limited to, manufacturing, fabrication, inspection, testing and safety.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate to student body principles, techniques, procedures and/or methods ranging from basic to advance on each of the following welding/cutting
  • processes: SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, PAC, SAW, OFW, OFC, Soldering and Brazing.
  • Present lectures and conduct discussions to increase student’s knowledge and competence of subject matter.
  • Provide individualized instruction on welding processes, blueprint interpretation, metal fabrication, and any other related subject matter or coursework when possible.
  • Connect subject matter with related fields so that students get a feel for real world applications.
  • Educate students in safe work practice application when using hand tools, shop equipment and when welding, cutting and fabricating.
  • Supervise and monitor student’s use of tools and equipment to help ensure safe work practices are being executed at all times.
  • Utilize technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience where appropriate, i.e. use of Blackboard, development and use of videos, visual aids, presentation material, etc., that aid in student understanding and adoption.
  • Work together with department in the planning and development of course curriculum, for both current and future. offerings, to keep our program aligned with industry and ahead of the curve wherever possible.
  • Collaborate with department on updating of any course material (syllabi, objectives, etc.), to keep courses and offerings fresh and aligned with industry and on the cutting edge wherever possible.
  • Participate in department meetings and program advisory committee meetings.
  • Participate in college events, which may fall outside a faculty’s schedule, that promote our program and the college, such as; recruiting events, campus tours organized by the college, open houses and competitions sponsored by the department.
  • Maintain technical knowledge of the welding field through active participation in professional development. organizations, events, seminars, training, etc., and integrate relevant information into program.
  • Substitute for other instructors in field of discipline, when needed.
  • Advise students on registration, course selections, career decisions and other academic and vocational concerns.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student’s needs and circumstances.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and submit final grade rosters each semester in accordance with college policy and FERPA.
  • Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and students for advisement and consultation.
  • Teach online course content.
  • Assist with hiring and oversee/direct part-time staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule: Hours vary based on class schedules—days, nights and weekends.

Physical Demands:

  • Move about 2/3 of the time and be stationary about 1/3 of the time.
  • Lift and move objects of 50 pounds

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Earned Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally-accredited institution in Welding Technology or related field required. American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welder (CW) required. Minimum 5 years full- time experience or AWS Certified Welding Instructor (CWI) required. Associates degree in Welding Technology or related field may be considered with a minimum of 7 years full-time work experience or licensure/certification as above.
  • Proficient in all welding processes, in all positions, on plate and pipe.
  • Proficient in blue print interpretation, reading weld symbols, layout and fabrication, CNC programming and have an understanding of metallurgy for welders.
  • Must have the ability to perform curriculum and assessment work.
  • Demonstrated high level of the following skills—project management, technology, and organizational.
  • Demonstrated positive management style and the ability to communicate effectively with college stakeholders.
  • Available to instruct days, nights and weekends and available year-round for events and college business, etc.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands listed above..
  • Operate machinery in a welding and manufacturing environment.
  • Tolerate frequent exposure to a wide variety of fumes and chemicals which are common to the industry.
  • Handle and mix chemicals properly and safely.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent, successful, post-secondary teaching experience in Welding and Fabrication courses.
  • Work experience or formal education specializing in automated welding and/or manufacturing or weld certification testing and inspection.
  • Proficient in CAD based software systems.
  • Online, remote, or virtual teaching experience.
  • QM Teaching Online certified.
