The Department of Chemistry at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applications for a non-tenure track half-time instructor (.50 FTE- benefits eligible) position starting in August 2021. Duties may include teaching both introductory and general chemistry labs and/or lecture, with other courses possible. Full-load is 12 contact hours per 9-month academic year. Job competencies include: 1) strong communication skills, 2) well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills, 3) the ability to work independently and as part of a team, 4) demonstration of initiative and sound judgment, 5) the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, and 6) Digital Literacy, 7) a commitment to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion. Applicants should be prepared to offer a variety of instructional formats such as in-person, hybrid, or online. The normal workload for this position is 95% teaching and 5% service with potential for modification to reflect directorial duties.
This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

- Master's degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
- PhD in Chemisty or closely related field
- Experience in curriculum development and instruction in general chemistry
- Experience in teaching general chemistry laboratory
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent
- Experience with online course management tools (Canvas, Zoom, etc.)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
