This role typically requires 2-4 hours of work per week.
Global Campus, American Language Institute (ALI) provides English language training to international students. Many of these students are preparing to matriculate to American universities, including SDSU.
Facilitating hours for this position can vary, but classes with ALI are typically offered Monday-Thursday 9:00am - 2:30pm and Friday from 9:30am - 12:30pm. Classes are offered in person and/or in a virtual setting through SDSU Global Campus.
Reporting to the ESL Director, the ALI - ESL Facilitator is responsible for providing college-level classroom assistance. The facilitator must be able to assist students with a variety of skills and at different proficiency levels.
Assist teachers with modeling English language and pronunciation
Monitor and work with pairs and groups
Enrich the learning experience of international students; provide more interaction as someone who is more proficient with the English language
Other Duties and Responsibilities: as Assigned 5%
Assist with additional activities as needed (orientation, field trips, housing, etc.)
Knowledge & Abilities
Ability to quickly learn and apply elementary methods and procedures
Ability to follow oral and or written directions, read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
Demonstrate a working knowledge and accuracy of English grammar, spelling and punctuation for use in simple sentence structure.
Previous experience working with international students and/or other non-native English speakers
Master's degree in Linguistics
TEFL/TESL Certificate in progress or completed.
American Language Institute TEFL/TESL Certificate completion
Previous experience studying a foreign language
