Computer Science Instructor (Adjunct Faculty Pool)



Location: Rogue Community College, OR Job Type: Adjunct Faculty Division: Instructional Services Job Number: 01199 Department: Computer Science Closing 6/30/2021 11:59 PM Pacific Screening Criteria Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Science or related field is required. A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Adult Education or a related field is preferred. Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree. Experience: Two years' recent experience in computer technologies such as programming, networks, operating systems, and packaged programs; community college teaching experience preferred. Some teaching or training experience is required in order to be considered for this position. Knowledge of: Extensive knowledge of the following: the subject area to be taught; computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, networks, the internet, spreadsheets, and multi-media presentations; curriculum development; the contemporary community college mission, its role in higher education, and its diverse student population; the role of accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act; and different pedagogical methods, including lecture, group activity, discussion, online and individual instruction to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Ability to: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with respect to diverse students, staff, agencies and community members; ability and willingness to work with non-traditional adult learners as well as teens; incorporate current technology into instruction; demonstrate excitement and enthusiasm in teaching computer science; adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including lectures, group activities and individual instruction; participate in the student advising program and college-wide efforts to improve student retention and success; assist in curriculum and program development incorporating current educational theories and research; learn, apply and teach new technologies; work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Pass a criminal background check. Licenses: If required to drive on behalf of the college, must possess a valid Oregon Driver License and provide proof of an acceptable driving record. Physical Demands: The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for less than half of the daily work period (about 40%) which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.
