Location: Rogue Community College, OR Job Type: Adjunct Faculty Division: Instructional Services Job Number: 01179 Department: Science Closing 6/30/2021 11:59 PM Pacific General Statement of Responsibilities This is an adjunct faculty pool for teaching in the Science department. The pool will remain open until June 2021 unless positions are no longer needed. Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. Typically at the end of the year (or at any point we no longer have a hiring need for this department), we will close this pool and you will receive an email notification. Instructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of various Science (chemistry and general science) courses. Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the science department of Rogue Community College. Supervision Received The dean, in consultation with the department chair is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president. The dean confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels. Supervision Exercised The instructor is responsible for carrying out all duties required to supervise students in lecture or lab. This includes classroom control, maintaining a safe environment, insuring proper care and use of equipment, and classroom discipline. Screening Criteria Education: A Master's degree in chemistry, general science, biochemistry, physics or related field is required for lecture. A Bachelor's degree biochemistry, chemistry general science, physics or related field is required for labs. Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree. Experience: Experience teaching at a high school or college level is desirable but not required. Knowledge of: Sufficient knowledge of the subject area taught; computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, and spreadsheets; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs. Ability to: Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new technologies such as online instruction; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.
