The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a 9-month, annually renewable, non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Residence. Housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program is a multidisciplinary research and teaching program committed to transforming scholarship in existing academic disciplines by incorporating the study, contributions, and feminist analysis of gender and sexuality. To that end, the program is invested in new approaches to interdisciplinary feminist teaching and engaged in intersectional work that advances understandings of the construction, reproduction, and resistance to inequality. Established in 1974, the program is among the most established in New England, and its faculty are nationally known and internationally recognized.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses, which may include introductory and advanced courses in gender/sexuality studies, critical feminist studies, literature, and humanities. The teaching load will be seven courses, in both lecture and seminar formats, across the academic year or the equivalent. The successful candidate will also be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate students in the major and minor, and perform service to the department and/or campus as requested.


Doctoral degree in English with a focus on gender and/or sexuality
Demonstrated excellence and experience in teaching
Commitment to working with a diverse student body


Experience in one or more of the following areas: women writers, critical theory (esp. feminist & queer theory), pop culture, gender & sexuality in British, American, and global literatures, and public writing as it relates to women, gender & sexuality
Experience teaching in lecture and seminar formats as well as teaching courses with interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary orientations
Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or mentoring first-generation, minority, or non-traditional college students
Specializations in gender and narrative theory and/or the politics and representation of marriage in literature and culture
Record of peer-reviewed publication and an active research program
Demonstrated effective communication skills (both written and oral) as well as the ability to engage productively and collegially with faculty across disciplines
Record of collegiate service is desired


This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020. The successful candidate's primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
