Business History Review
Business History Review is a quarterly publication of original research by historians, economists, sociologists, and scholars of business administration. BHR's ongoing mission, from its 1926 inception as the Bulletin of the Business Historical Society, is to encourage and aid the study of the evolution of business in all periods and all countries.

In This Issue

As the Colombian historian Carlos Davila points out in his introduction, this is the third issue that the Business History Review has devoted to Latin America (the others were published in 1965 and 1985). In this issue, Aldo Musacchio describes how the addition of investor protections to corporate bylaws enabled corporations in Brazil to attract investors. Aurora Gómez-Galvarriato recounts how entrepreneurial French immigrants modernized the Mexican textile sector. Norma S. Lanciotti compares the performances of Belgian and American electric-utility companies in Argentina. And Marcelo Bucheli explains how the British company Weetman Pearson lost its bid to gain control of Colombia's oil by mishandling negotiations with the Colombian government. The issue also contains a historiographical overview of Latin American business by María Inés Barbero and a survey of business-history banking archives by Carlos Marichal.
