Applications are being sought by the Department of Linguistics for a .5 time Lecturer position beginning January 1, 2018. A completed PhD by the time of appointment is a primary qualification for appointment, as is demonstrated promise as a teacher, including demonstrated ability to teach scientific writing in linguistics. Duties of the position will include the teaching and development of lower-division undergraduate linguistics classes, both core and service courses, many of which are large classes, as well as the periodic teaching of upper-division classes in the sub-discipline of their PhD research. The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the collegial governance of the department and university and should have the ability and willingness to assume roles that help the department meet the university’s mission to engage with the community. Linguistics at SFU (web page: http://www.sfu.ca/linguistics) offers both graduate and undergraduate degree programs, joint majors with Computing Science and First Nations Studies, a TESL certificate program, a speech science certificate, a certificate in First Nations language proficiency, and provides one of the principal components of the Cognitive Science undergraduate degree program. The department currently serves 215 undergraduate majors/minors and 25 graduate students. In addition to a full suite of linguistics courses at all levels, the department offers an array of courses in First Nations languages, primarily in communities throughout BC and the Yukon.
