IN JULY, HARPER College trustees approved a 3.7 percent pay raise for the college’s 500 part-time faculty. The raise brings the average salary of an adjunct professor to about $676 per credit hour.
However, the pay scale for part-timers could be amended when their union completes contract negotiations with college officials. The last bargaining session was June 28th. No date has been set for future meetings.
The Harper College Adjunct Faculty Association is negotiating the first union contract for part-time instructors. Arlene Bublick, president of the association, said sticking points are pay raises and a union-backed measure that would force about 300 of the 500 part-time faculty members to pay dues to the association, whether they join or not.
